With a lengthy break from competitive racing, I figured I might as well let you know how my race weekend went at the 2008 ROAR Truck Off-Road Fuel Nationals. Daniel and I drove away in the Pro-Line box van Tuesday afternoon. 5 hours of driving a 4-cylinder turbo diesel pulling 14,000 lbs is a blast. 45 mph up grades really allows you time to think about the event and reflect on those oh so special moments in your lives.

While we were driving, Marty Korn pulled along side us and gave us a honk. About 2 minutes later we get picture mail from him showing him going 90mph. Thanks for that Marty. It was nice to see he was going much faster than we were. We responded with picture mail going 65 mph.

When the race came to a close, I ended up qualifying for the a-main and ended up 10th after having issues that were out of my hands. I’m looking forward on the Pro-Line Nitro MAX Challenge in a few weeks and then on to the 1:8 buggy Nats at Thunder Alley Raceway. Hope to see you all there!

I travel quite a bit with my job.  The best part of scoring a descent size hotel room is they make killer micro r/c tracks!

Check out my super stealth, Losi Micro T travel case. What might look like an old school Oakley glass case turns out to be the perfect hauler for the tiny terror.  Braaap!

Hey everyone, hope your enjoying this new page on Pro-Line’s new web sight. I wanted to share a little insight on Jammin Jay Halsey’s new “Super Buggy”, It’s a Hustler Concepts single seat racing chassis (total weight is 1600lbs) powered by a Toyota 1650cc 220 Hp engine. After getting the chassis and suspension tuned in over the past month and half, Jay says it is ready for the 08 Corr Offroad Championship Series!

This past week, a friend of mine, Collin Cocores was in town.  There’s a Vintage Trans-Am National http://www.usvintagetransam.com/ at one of the local tracks http://www.harbor-hobby.net/.  He’s in town for the event, and decided to come in a few days early. Sounds like a good reason for some mid week club racing, eh?

I threw 5 of my cars and all my racing gear in the back of his P/T Cruiser rental. Well, Collin driving a rental with all my racing gear in the back doesn’t exactly mix.  Everything was fine, but I’m pretty certain that P/T is due for an oil change

Radio controlled rock crawling might just be the fastest growing niche out there.  Looking at all the new products recently released from Proline, as well as many other manufacturers, tells us that 10th scale crawling is really HOT! With five different Proline tires to choose from to clad your crawler with, each in two different rubber compounds, the venerable M2 and the super soft M3, I decided that an intra-company 2.2 tire test was a must. The line up consisted of the new Flat Iron, Hammer and Badlands, accompanied by the legendary Moab and Masher 2000. It took me about 40 hours to compile results from the intense testing I did, along with a couple of hard-core crawling buddies.  Requests and demand for detailed information about Proline tires throughout the RC crawling community was eating at me and I wanted to deliver what the enthusiasts wanted.

Finally, a choice of more than two crawling tires, that actually work!

Hello Pro-Line viewers. I titled this Blog “The Great Northwest” because in my eyes it really is amazing. I recently went to the Lunsford Gas Blast in Portland, Oregon and after the event I went directly over to Couer d’Alene to work with Performance R/C Hobbies on some projects. While staying up in this beautiful region I had the opportunity to go with Matt Afana to ride snowmobiles in the fresh Idaho powder. WOW what an amazing and truly breathtaking experience for a California Native!

I was able to squeeze in a mid-week club race, but it sure seemed like everything was working against me. It all started with my commuter train running late. Once I got home, I headed out in my car for what would normally be the 45-minute drive. It took me a half hour just to go 5 miles to the highway. Some crazy car accident had everything jacked up. From there, I merged onto a highway full of cars that were not moving. Turns out, a tanker truck full of fuel overturned and was engulfed in flames.  http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/chi-tanker-fire-webapr03,0,4173839.story

Once the traffic finally started moving, I was following a truck pulling an empty trailer. The driver nearly lost control of his rig, and the trailer swerved violently, taking up both lanes. Could there be any more things working against me?     Read the rest of this entry »

Hello everyone!! Well its springtime now and you know what that means – spring-cleaning!! As I was walking into my garage this past weekend to do some wrenching on my nitro whip’s, I looked around and was inspired to do some cleaning (actually, my lady called me out and said “I was straight slippin’ on the garage etiquette” – so you know I had to do work son!!! Can’t be havin’ a dirty garage.) Anyway, as I was rambling through some things I struck gold!!! I found the only 1/10th scale off-road buggy body that I kept from back in my electric days with associated.

chrisr1.JPG

This is the “Mirage” body that was made by RCPS (Cliff Lett’s company at the time) with a custom airbrush paint job by yours truly. Basically, this was the body of choice to run on the aluminum chassis RC10 whether you were sponsored or not – I bought many of them before I got picked up. So before I knew it, I had been staring at the body for half an hour as it had sparked many memories. The garage cleaning and my wrenching did finally get done and I was so psyched that I found that body – nostalgia for sure. Good times!!!! CR
