Blog Intro: Eric Schutt

My name is Eric Schutt. I enjoy singing out loud to slow jams, shoveling knee deep snow, and snorting the copper shavings from my comm lathe. HA! Honestly, I’m a 35 year old self proclaimed r/c addict. I work in the bicycle industry in marketing, but enjoy everything r/c related in my free time.

Free time has become a rare commodity, as my wife and I had twins last year. They’re totally awesome, but props to my stellar wife for making time for me to play with my ‘toy cars’. The inside of my garage looks like a hobby shop with nearly every aspect of r/c represented. Gas and electric boats, gas and electric planes, and every scale of gas and electric cars and trucks. I used to be pretty into kart racing, and that’s translated into my r/c on road passion. The mountain biker in me totally grooves on the dirt scene, too. 1:8 on-road would be my favorite class, with 1:10 electric 4wd off road a close second.

I enjoy working with several r/c companies. Over the years, I’ve developed personal relationships with folks at R/C Car Magazine, Airtronics, Byrons Fuel, O.S. Engines, Kyosho, HPI…and of course Pro-Line. You won’t find me climbing on any national podiums, but I’m a competitive club racer that thrives on pulling trigger. With a marketing degree and years of ’street’ experience, I like to help support the people that support me. I contribute promotional ideas for trade shows, product launches, as well as product testing and product feedback. For the past few years, I have been a regular contributor for R/C Car Mag.

As a Chicago ‘lifer’, I’m lucky to have a killer local hobby shop..Al’s Hobby Shop in Elmhurst, Illinois. This shop has been kicking it for over 70 years, how rad is that? I’m also lucky to have a stellar ‘home’ track that features a massive indoor, off-road track. With epic winters here in the Midwest, being able to run 1:8 nitro buggy in the winter is wicked. They fact that they also happen to have a beautiful 1:8 on road track and 1:8 dirt track doesn’t hurt either.

I’ll be checking in here on a regular basis, so till later-
Eric
