As many of you know my nickname is Squirrel. The name goes back over 15 years ago and accredited to Daren Westman, Mike Reedy’s son. Needless to say the name is very fitting for a number of reasons. Some reasons that I don’t mind talking about today and other reasons that should maybe be forgotten. I’ve been fortunate to travel to many portions of the world that most people only dream of and I think we (myself and all the drivers that attend the races), have taken the most advantage of the racing and spirit of these places. To name a few: Japan, Finland, Sweden, Germany, Italy, Spain, France, England, Uruguay and more to come I hope. But for now, here’s a more recent outtake and somewhat “Squirrelly” moment. You’ve scene those shows where game show host and contestants can’t stop laughing? Well, this is one of those moments with Jason Sams and myself.

Enjoy!

With a lengthy break from competitive racing, I figured I might as well let you know how my race weekend went at the 2008 ROAR Truck Off-Road Fuel Nationals. Daniel and I drove away in the Pro-Line box van Tuesday afternoon. 5 hours of driving a 4-cylinder turbo diesel pulling 14,000 lbs is a blast. 45 mph up grades really allows you time to think about the event and reflect on those oh so special moments in your lives.

While we were driving, Marty Korn pulled along side us and gave us a honk. About 2 minutes later we get picture mail from him showing him going 90mph. Thanks for that Marty. It was nice to see he was going much faster than we were. We responded with picture mail going 65 mph.

When the race came to a close, I ended up qualifying for the a-main and ended up 10th after having issues that were out of my hands. I’m looking forward on the Pro-Line Nitro MAX Challenge in a few weeks and then on to the 1:8 buggy Nats at Thunder Alley Raceway. Hope to see you all there!

My wife and I are expecting our first baby boy in a matter of days. She’s been on bedrest since January 4th. You can imagine the amount of home work I have not too mention that she’s board out of her mind day-in and day-out. Being there for her on an emotional level is at an all time high right now. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind being there for her. We’re brining in our baby boy into the world and I want to be there 100% for her and the baby.

But, becuase I can’t be too far from home right now, many of you know that I was not able to make the Nitro Challenge and I will miss the Silver State race as well. Lucky for me, the boys over at RCP, an online crawling store and makers of accessories for crawlers, has opened up Friday nights to run at there indoor crawling course. Crawling is the fastest growing segment of RC right now and being the marketing guy for Pro-Line I want to give it the full attention our crawling customers deserve. Read the rest of this entry »

Hey what’s up everyone. Scott Hughes here aka “Squirrel”. I’d have to say that my nickname is very fitting for my personality. I tend to be a little out of control in all that I do but my older age, 32 now, has slowed me down a bit. For those of you that don’t know much about me, here it goes.

I started racing back in 1989. The likes of Mark Pavidis, Cliff Lett, Brian Kinwald, Kyle Reed, Jack Johnson and Ron Rosetti were the guys to beat. Heck, Pavidis is a current World Champion and Kinwald can still be seen tearing it up all over the US. I was hooked and gifted with my hand/eye coordination so I drove like a bat out of you know what. Since then I’ve won numerous National Championships, I am currently the Vice World Champion in 1:8 Off-Road, and love all facets of radio control.
